Badgers Wrap Regular Season with Road Swing in Rangely

GAME NOTES

  • The Snow College softball team will conclude its regular season schedule with a four-game series against Colorado Northwestern Community College Thursday and Friday in Rangely.  Thursday's meetings will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Friday's doubleheader slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.

  • The Badgers are entering the matchup with the Spartans riding their longest losing streak of the season following a four-game sweep against No. 5 Salt Lake Community College last week.  The Badgers lost all eight games against the Bruins this season.

  • With a 19-17 record within Scenic West Athletic conference play, the Badgers sit in third place within the conference.  They are seeking just two victories in the final four games of the season to lock up the three seed in the conference tournament at the end of the year.

  • Kamryn Allen hit two home runs against the Bruins last week.  With her 18th home run of the year in game four of the series, Allen tied current Snow College Assistant Coach Brooke Brown for the single-season home run record.  Brown set the record with 18 homers during the 2018 season.

  • As a team, the Badgers hit 10 home runs against SLCC.  They have hit a total of 87 homers this season which surpasses last season's total of 84.  The home run total is the most the Badgers have ever hit as a team.

  • There are only five teams that have hit more home runs than the Badgers as a team this season.  They are in a tie for sixth with 87 home runs hit this season trailing only Galveston, Southern Idaho, Trinidad State, Tyler, and Jefferson.

  • The Badgers are 96-7 overall against CNCC.  They have won 37 straight games against the Spartans and have not lost a game since May 2017.  The Badgers took four games from the Spartans in Pleasant Grove earlier this season.

UP NEXT: The Badgers will participate in the Scenic West Athletic Conference Tournament.  The tournament will be hosted by the regular season conference champion, which is currently SLCC.  If the Badgers enter the tournament as the three seed, they will most likely be pitted against the College of Southern Idaho in the first round.  Snow College went 1-7 against the Golden Eagles during the regular season.  The first-round matchup is scheduled for May 6 at 2:30 p.m.  For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.

LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College softball team suffered their second consecutive sweep against No. 6 Salt Lake Community College Wednesday and Thursday in Ephraim.  Following a seven-game winning streak, the Badgers have now lost eight straight games.

Snow College entered the weekend following a four-game sweep against No. 7 College of Southern Idaho.  The Badgers have gone just 1-15 against ranked teams this season.  They now own a 30-23 overall record and a 19-17 mark within the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

The Bruins struck first in game one and scored six runs over the first two innings.  The Badgers trimmed the deficit to 8-4 by the fourth inning following a sacrifice fly and a pair of homers from McCall Maxfield.

The Badgers rallied late in the game as Aiden Fitch and Maxfield each hit two-run singles and plated another run on an error and trailed by just one, 10-9.  The Bruins added a run in the seventh and the Badgers were not able to respond and suffered the 11-9 loss.

It was the Badgers that jumped out to the early lead in game two of the series.  They scored a pair of runs in the second on an error before Hadley Walker, Fitch, and Kamryn Allen each hit solo homers to take a 5-0 lead.

The Bruins quickly turned the tables and scored 14 runs over the next three innings.  The Badgers managed just one run during that time – an RBI single from Hailey Mangum – as they dropped the game 14-6.

Game three of the series proved to be an outright slugfest as the teams combined to hit a total of five home runs and six doubles while scoring a combined 32 runs on 28 hits.  Each team scored three runs in the first inning.  Another Maxfield homer followed an RBI single from Fitch in the opening frame for the Badgers.

The Badgers struck again in the fourth following eight consecutive Bruins' tallies.  Brenly Boydston blasted a sharp line drive over the centerfield wall to plate three runs and cut the deficit to 11-6.  The Badgers added two more in the fifth behind a Reata O'Neal double and a Mangum single.  The Bruins scored eight runs over the final three innings and lead 19-8 entering the final frame.

Boydston sparked a rally in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to center.  A bases-loaded walk added a run before Tasia Shibuya cleared the bases with a double down the left-field line.  It wasn't enough as the Badgers dropped game three, 19-13.

The Bruins wasted no time taking control of the final game of the series as they scored five runs in the first and nine runs in the second.  The Badgers scored two runs in three separate innings.  Allen singled in the first, which plated two runs before a Shibuya homer and a wild pitch scored two more in the fifth.

Maxfield opened up the bottom of the fifth inning with a home run to left field before Allen followed with her team-leading 18th homer of the season.  The Badgers were not able to rally further and were defeated 16-6.

With the home run in the seventh inning of game four, Allen tied the single-season home run record set by current Snow College assistant coach Brooke Brown in 2018.  Allen currently leads the team in hitting at .455 and, in addition to her 18 homers, has driven in 66 runs this season.

Allen led the way offensively as she went 7-13(.538/.571/.1.077) from the plate with two homers and five runs.  Maxfield went 6-13(.462/.500/1.385) with four homers, eight RBIs and six runs.  The Badgers hit .351 as a team and hit a total of 10 homers against the Bruins.
