Avery Thorkelson of the Snow College softball team has been named the Scenic West Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
 
The award comes following the Badgers' first sweep of the season after they took all four games against North Idaho College during their final home series of the year. The Badgers have now won seven of their last nine games and sit firmly in third place within the SWAC standings.
 
Thorkelson had potentially her best game of her young career as she pitched a complete-game shutout – the first shutout for the Badgers of the season – while scattering just two hits and striking out five batters.
 
She followed that up in the third game of the series with a complete game where she allowed just two earned runs on six hits and two strikeouts. Thorkelson earned the win in both games and improved to 11-10 on the season.
 
Thorkelson, a freshman from St. George, Utah, has appeared in 31 games for the Badgers this season. She sports a 4.39 ERA with 77 strikeouts over 142.0 innings pitched throughout the season. She is also batting .318 with a home run and four RBIs from the plate.
