OPENING SERVE: The Snow College volleyball team will head to its final non-conference slate in Taylorsville, Friday and Saturday, for the Canyon View Intermountain Invite. The Badgers will play four opponents, including the No. 1-ranked team in the nation. Snow College currently sits at a 6-5 record on the year.
The Badgers will take on No. 10 Trinity Valley Community College at 9:00 a.m. and Eastern Wyoming College at 3:00 p.m. during the first day of the invite. The Badgers will kick off day two against Missouri State University-West Plains at 9:00 a.m. and will close out the meeting against No. 1 Miami Dade College at 2:00 p.m.
Snow College is coming off a successful outing at the Starr Corporation Invitational, where it took two of its three matches against Central Wyoming College 3-0 and EWC 3-1. The Badgers' lone loss came against No. 15 Northeastern Junior College 3-0.
KNOW YOUR FOE: The Badgers open up against TVCC at 9:00 a.m. The Cardinals are 9-2 on the year with their losses coming against No. 13 Eastern Florida State 3-0 and No. 2 Florida Southwestern State 3-0. The Cardinals have yet to have a game go beyond three sets.
These teams have faced off twice before, with the Cardinals winning both games 3-0 over the last two years in this event. Last year's meeting was a close one with the Badgers losing the sets 25-19, 25-23, and 25-20.
The Badgers are returning two players who made an impact in that game, with
Cami Christiansen and
Madi Orth, who were both in the top three in kills with eight and six, respectively.
The Badgers will then take on EWC at 3:00 p.m. to close out day one. Snow College and EWC met last weekend at the Starr Corporation Invitational, where the Badgers won 3-1. The Lancers went 0-4 at the Starr Corporation Invitational and now sit at 4-11 on the season.
Christiansen led the Badgers in kills against EWC with 15, with
Cass Klapp close behind at 10. The Badgers were led defensively by Klapp, who had seven blocks, and
Avery Fowler, who recorded 13 digs.
Snow College opens up day two by taking on MSU-WP at 9:00 a.m. The Grizzlies are 2-5 to open up the 2025 season.
The last time these two teams faced was in 2023 at this event, with the Badgers taking it 3-2. The Badgers are 5-1 all-time against the Grizzlies, winning the last five dating back to 2012.
The Badgers will close out the invite by taking on the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, MDC. MDC were the runners-up to the National Championship last year, falling to FSS 3-0. The Sharks sit at a perfect 9-0 record to start the 2025 season.
The Sharks are 4-1 all-time against the Badgers, with the last two meetings coming in 2022. The two teams split the games, with the Badgers winning 3-0 in Taylorsville and the Sharks taking the next matchup 3-0 in Twin Falls, Idaho.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cami Christiansen of the Snow College volleyball team has been named the Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Christiansen becomes the first Badger this season to claim the weekly award. This comes after she helped the Badgers secure two victories at the Starr Corporation Invitational last weekend in Twin Falls.
Christiansen led the team offensively as she recorded 35 kills across three matches during the tournament. She recorded an impressive .415 hitting percentage while recording just eight errors on 65 total attempts during the tournament.
In addition to her offensive prowess, Christiansen tallied a total of nine blocks throughout the weekend, including two solo blocks and seven block assists. She also recorded nine digs to help the Badgers defensively.
Christiansen, a sophomore from Cedar Hills, Utah, has played in all 11 matches for the Badgers this season. She has recorded a total of 101 kills across 38 total sets played while recording a hitting percentage of .266 – both of which lead the team.
Christiansen has recorded a total of 39 blocks defensively this season, including four solo blocks and 35 block assists. Her 39 blocks land her second overall on the team and seventh within the conference.
Across her career, Christiansen has recorded 256 kills at a .231 hitting percentage. She has played in 33 total matches across two seasons with the team. She's tallied 46 digs and 77 total blocks in a Badger uniform.
LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over EWC. They took the first set 25-15 in convincing fashion before the Lancers came back and won a close second set 25-22. The Badgers were able to stabilize, taking the third set 25-15 and the fourth and final set 25-23.
The Badgers closed out day one by sweeping CWC. Snow College won all three sets in a hard-fought fashion against the Rustlers, taking the sets 25-19, 25-22, and 25-21.
Snow College only had one game on the second day, a rematch against NJC, a team it had played a week before at the LCCC Invitational. The Badgers swept the Plainswomen 3-0 in that meeting.
NJC and Snow College had a tightly contested first two sets, with the Plainswomen edging out the Badgers 25-22 and 25-23. For set three, the Badgers weren't able to find their footing, and the Plainswomen were able to complete the sweep, taking the final set 25-17.
The Badgers were led in kills by
Cami Christiansen at 35, followed by
Hallie Layton, who had 18.
Ema Thompson recorded 92 assists over the three games, and
Avery Fowler led the Badgers in digs with 28, followed closely by Thompson at 26.
UP NEXT: The Badgers will start Scenic West Athletic Conference play against No. 12 Salt Lake Community College in Taylorsville Sept. 26 at 6:00 p.m. The Badgers are 18-19 all-time against SLCC, including a 6-10 record on the road.
Snow College will then travel to Rangley, Colorado, to take on Colorado Northwestern Community College the next day, Sept. 27, at 1:00 p.m. The Badgers are 32-0 all-time against the Spartans, with the Badgers having only dropped three sets across all 32 meetings.
