Badgers Face Defending National Champs at NFSC Invitational

GAME NOTES:
  • The Snow College softball team will travel to Florida to participate in the Northwest Florida State Invitational. They'll take on a trio of opponents, including the host school and defending National Champions, during the three-day event.

  • Snow College will face NFSC, the No. 1 team in the country, and the defending NJCAA National Champions three times during the tournament, starting Thursday at 12:00 p.m. They'll take on Louisburg College Friday at 3:00 p.m. before wrapping up the event with a doubleheader against Gulf Coast State College, beginning Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

  • The Badgers are coming off the College of Southern Nevada Coyote Classic, where they won a trio of games to begin the 2026 season. They defeated CSN 9-5, Central Arizona College 13-7, and Yavapai College 11-0.

  • Gigi Hall led the way at the Coyote Classic as she went 14-17 (.824) at the plate while hitting two homers, three doubles, a triple, and driving in seven RBIs. She also scored 10 runs and stole five bases for the Badgers. Her efforts were good enough to land her the Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week Award.

  • As a team, the Badgers hit .404 at the Coyote Classic and hit eight home runs. They scored a total of 40 runs across the five games while recording an OPS of 1.076.

  • NFSC enters the tournament with a 19-1 overall record. The Raiders went 61-4 last season and 20-0 within the Florida College System Activities Association en route to a National Championship. The Badgers have never faced the Raiders.

  • Louisburg has not played a game yet in the 2026 season. During 2025, the Hurricanes went 51-9 and 29-1 within NJCAA Division II Region 10. They won the Region 10 Tournament but were defeated by Delaware Technical Community College in the Atlantic District Tournament.

  • GCSC is 15-5 overall to begin the 2026 season. Last year, the Commodores went 28-25 and 9-11 within the FCSAA. They entered the FCSAA Tournament as an eight seed, but bowed out quickly after suffering consecutive losses.

LAST TIME OUT:  The Snow College softball team earned a trio of victories at the College of Southern Nevada Coyote Classic over the weekend in Henderson, Nevada.

Game one of the tournament opened Friday morning with Snow College earning a 9-5 win against the College of Southern Nevada. The Badgers wasted little time, scoring twice in the first inning when Taimane Laolagi-Aloy doubled to left and later scored on an RBI double by Loreal Gonzalez. Nev Carrasquel followed with another double to drive in Gonzalez and give Snow College a 2-0 lead.

Southern Nevada responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning, but Snow answered in the second. Gigi Hall delivered the key blow, launching a three-run home run to center field that extended the lead to 5-1.

Snow College added another run later in the inning on an RBI single by Gonzalez. After CSN closed to within three runs in the second, Snow College again created separation in the third when Grace Thomas singled through the left side to drive in two runs. Hall added an RBI on a fielder's choice in the seventh to cap the scoring. Laolagi-Aloy earned the win, throwing 5 1/3 innings and limiting damage after early pressure.

Later Friday, Snow College faced CSN again and lost 11–4. After falling behind 3-0 in the second inning, the Badgers responded in the third with a surge of power. Brooke Fisher homered to center field to score two runs, and Thomas followed with a solo home run to tie the game at 3.

Snow briefly seized control in the fourth when Chely Deleon homered to left field, giving the Badgers a 4-3 advantage. CSN answered immediately with a four-run fourth inning. The Coyotes added four more runs in the fifth, and Snow College was unable to regain momentum despite collecting 10 hits in the game and suffered the 11-4 loss.

Snow College wrapped up day one of the tournament Friday afternoon with a 13–7 win over Central Arizona College. The Badgers erupted for nine runs in the first inning, sending 13 batters to the plate.

Hall led off the inning with a solo home run to centerfield. Six singles and a hit batsman plated five more runs before Hall added two more with a double to right field. Laolagi-Aloy added the ninth run of the inning on a sacrifice fly, and the Badgers led 9-0 before the Vaqueros stepped to the plate.

Laolagi-Aloy drove in a run on a single in the third, and Mallory Kelsey gave the Badgers an 11-4 lead on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Two more sacrifice flies in the seventh saw Snow College earn the 13-7 victory.

Snow College returned to the field Saturday morning against Eastern Arizona College. The Badgers broke through a scoreless tie in the third when Fisher executed a squeeze play to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead.

Snow added two more runs in the fifth after Hall and Fisher both recorded base hits to take a 3-0 lead. EAC responded in the bottom of the sixth with a five-run inning, highlighted by a two-run home run that swung the game. Snow College was held scoreless in the seventh as EAC secured the 5-3 win.

The Badgers rebounded later Saturday with their most dominant performance of the weekend, shutting out Yavapai College 11–0 in five innings. Snow College scored five runs in the first inning, sparked by a leadoff triple from Hall. After a single from Chloe Tycksen, Fisher drove them all home with a three-run shot to dead center.

Gonzalez followed with a homer before Claire Yates drove home Thomas on a single to give the Badgers a 5-0 advantage after one complete inning. The Badgers would scratch again in the third inning on a sharp single from Rian Howland to extend the lead to six.

Fisher recorded her second three-run homer of the game in the fourth inning. Later in the same frame, Yates doubled, and Howland singled to plate two more runs, and the Badgers went on to secure the 11-0 victory – their first shutout of the season.

Across the five games, Hall led the way offensively as she went 14-17 (.824) at the plate and hit two homers, three doubles, a triple, and seven RBIs. She also scored 10 runs and stole five bases for the Badgers. Fisher went 6-15 with a double, three homers, and a team-high nine RBIs.

Inside the circle, Avery Thorkelson pitched 8.1 innings while surrendering three earned runs and striking out a team-high seven batters.

UP NEXT: The Badgers will wrap up non-conference play at the Lander Jamboree hosted by McLennan Community College. They'll play three games against the host school to start the three-day tournament. They'll also play two games against Alvin Community College, as well as a single matchup against Hutchinson Community College. The tournament starts Thursday, Feb. 26 at 1:30 p.m. MST in Waco, Texas.
