Softball Heads to Final Non-Conference Meeting at Lander Jamboree

GAME NOTES:

The Snow College softball team will hit the road for its final non-conference tournament as it will head to Waco, Texas, for the Lander Jamboree.

The Badgers will kick off the jamboree against the host school, No. 9 McLennan Community College, in a three-game series, starting Thursday at 1:00 p.m. MST. They will then play a split pair of games against Alvin Community College, beginning on Friday at 5:30 MST, and wrap the jamboree at 12:30 MST Saturday. They will also have a single game against No. 25 Hutchison Community College Saturday at 10:00 a.m MST.

The Badgers are coming off the Northwest Florida State Invitational, where they earned one victory out of their four games played. They defeated Louisburg College 12-2 in five innings.

Brooke Fisher has earned her first Scenic West Athletic Conference player of the week award for her performance last weekend, where she went 5-10 (.500/.500/.900) from the plate over four games during the tournament. She also hit a double, a home run, and drove in two RBIs while scoring four runs. Defensively, she also recorded nine putouts.

The Badgers have hit 10 home runs so far this year, split between five different players. Fisher leads the way with four, followed by Gigi Hall and Loreal Gonzalez each with two, and Grace Thomas and Chely Deleon with one apiece.

MCC enters the jamboree with a 9-5 record and is ranked ninth in the NJCAA national rankings. The Badgers and Highlanders have faced each other once before, last year, when the Badgers fell 6-4.

ACC heads to the jamboree with a 6-8 overall record and is entering its fourth year as a program. The Badgers have never faced the Dolphins.

HCC sits at a record of 10-2 to start the 2026 season. The Blue Dragons have played in four different tournaments to start the season. This is the first meeting between programs.

LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College softball team took one of its four games over the previous weekend at the Northwest Florida State Invitational. The Badgers earned a 12-2 victory against Louisburg College.

The Badgers are coming off the Coyote Classic, where they won three of their five games. They picked up wins against the host school, College of Southern Nevada, 9-5, Central Arizona College, 13-7, and Yavapai College, 11-0 in five innings.

The Badgers kicked off the first day of the tournament against the number one team in the NJCAA preseason rankings and defending National Champions, Northwest Florida State College. NWSC got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the first and added an additional run in the second.

The Badgers' offense would respond in the top of the third. After the first two batters of the inning reached, before a Gigi Hall sacrifice bunt drove home the first run. Brooke Fisher followed with a 2-run homer to right field to tie the game at three. The Raiders would respond with eight runs over the next two innings while holding the Badgers to six at-bats and cruising to an 11-3 victory in five innings.

The second game of the doubleheader had NFSC bolt out to a 10-0 lead by the end of the third. The Badgers would answer with two runs in the top of the fourth, highlighted by a two-run home run by Loreal Gonzalez to center field. NFSC would add two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and enact the mercy rule, winning 12-2 in five innings.

The Badgers played one game on day two of the invitational against Louisburg. They started the game hot as Hall hit a leadoff triple before Chloe Tycksen drove her in on a fly ball to center field.

The Badgers would keep the scoring going as Gonzalez hit a grounder to second, scoring Tycksen, and setting up a runner on third. They would produce three more runs off a Grace Thomas bunt, a Rian Howland double to left, and Brynlee Riedle capped off the scoring in the first with a sacrifice fly to left.

Louisburg would respond with two runs of its own in the bottom of the first, bringing the Badger lead down to three. The Badgers would put the game out of reach at the top of the second, tallying an additional five runs off three consecutive doubles from Gonzalez, Taimane Laolagi-Aloy, and Thomas. Riedle scored the final run of the second on a sac fly to left, bringing the Badgers' lead to eight runs.

The Badgers would score two more runs in the top of the fourth off a Howland single to left field and an ensuing throwing error to cruise to a 12-2 victory. Bree Garcia would pick up her first win of the year and would complete all five innings on the mound, allowing only one hit, two earned runs, and three strikeouts.

Snow College closed the final day of the invitational against Gulf Coast State College. The Badgers would strike first in the top of the second inning as both Thomas and Riedle got on base, before Laolagi-Aloy doubled to right field to drive them both in for the early 2-0 lead. The Commodores would score four runs in response in the bottom of the second. They knocked an additional two home in the bottom of the fifth to take the game 6-2.

Fisher led the Badger offense, hitting 5-9 at the plate with a double and one of the two Badger homers across the four games played. Gonzalez hit the other home run on 4-8 batting while also recording a double.
