This past weekend the Snow College Women's Basketball team (3-2) traveled to Casper, Wyo. to play in the Pizza Hut Invitational, coming home with a split in games played on Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday, Snow played the No. 20 nationally ranked Casper College Thunderbirds (4-1) and lost 58-38. Badger sophomore #Amber Daly# led the team with seven points and three rebounds. “It wasn't just one thing,” said Daly when asked to name the biggest factor in the loss. “We were getting pressured more than usual, no one was making their shots, and we weren't all on the same page. We had all the right ideas, but never got into the flow of things.”
Freshmen #Emily Howey# was also able to put six points on the board and pull down 4 rebounds. However, Thunderbird sophomore guard, Shelby Stewart, had a game high17 points to lead Casper to the win.
The next day Snow played Northeastern Junior College from Sterling, Colo., and took an 82-59 win over the 2-2 Plainswomen. Badger sophomore #Courtnie Duncan# scored 16 points, nine of which were from behind the 3-point line, and pulled down four rebounds. Sophomore forward Jordi Wilden, also had an impressive game scoring 15 points and grabbing seven boards.
Both #Becca Rees# and #Kobe Farrer# put 11 points each on the board, with one bucket each from beyond the 3-point arc.
NJC's Ashley Kennedy tried to keep the Plainswomen in the game with 16 points and eight rebounds, but it just wasn't enough to match the potent Badger offense.
“Our team bounced back nicely for a much more complete game against NJC on Friday afternoon,” said head coach #Natalie Visger#. “We still need to do a better job getting the ball inside to our posts and attacking the rim with the dribble, but we are consistently improving and that is a positive sign.”
“It felt good to end the weekend on that win,” said Duncan. “We all felt like we could have played a lot better than we did in the game before [Casper], but we came out and executed well [against NJC].”
The Badgers will be on the road again next week in Gillette, Wyo., to participate in the Coach America Classic Tournament. “We will be preparing this week for another tough road trip to Wyoming, as we play Gillette College twice on their home court and Northwest College,” says Visger. “Three games in a row is tough mentally and physically. I expect us to handle pressure better with our guards and to do a better job defensively guarding penetration.”
