The unranked Lady Badger basketball team (4-4) played in the Coach America Classic Tournament this past weekend in Gillette, Wyo., and came home with a win and two losses. “It was a tough trip for us mentally and physically, but overall I saw a lot of positives from our young team,” said head coach Natalie Visger.
Thursday Snow played the host team, No. 15 nationally ranked Gillette College, and fell short 58-68.
Sophomore forward and team captain, Jordi Wilden, was the Badger's high scorer and rebounder. She scored 20 of Snow's 58 and grabbed seven rebounds. Wilden was also perfect from the free-throw line, making six of six and shooting 63 percent from the field.
Friday, however, was a different day as Snow took on unranked Northwest College and won 72-54.
Amber Daly, a sophomore guard, was the high scorer for the Badgers with 16 points. Four of her buckets were from behind the three-point line. “I felt we were together during this game,” says Daly. “Things just went right and everyone seemed to gel better. We had a hard time getting in rhythm against Gillette.”
Wilden also had a good game scoring 15 points and making eight rebounds for the Badgers.
Freshmen guard, Kobe Farrer, was perfect from behind the three-point line scoring 11 total points. Farrer also pulled down five rebounds for Snow.
Saturday, Snow played Gillette College for a second time and fell short yet again, 65-51.
This time freshmen Kiz Farrer was the high scorer for the Badgers with 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Wilden was also able to score 11 points and grab six rebounds for the Badgers. “This weekend was a great learning experience for us,” says Wilden. “We got to play some really quality opponents and grow as a team.”
“The team played well this weekend,” says captain Becca Rees. “We have improved a lot from the beginning of the season and we are going to continue to get better with more experience. Overall it was a good few games for our young team.”
“We have little things to clean up that are fixable and we are looking forward to being at home,” says Visger.
The Badgers will host their first home game this Friday against the Idaho All-Stars and then the Utah All-Stars on Saturday. Tip-off will be Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 4p.m.
