The Snow College Lady Badger basketball team is now 2-4 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) after losing to the No. 18 nationally ranked Salt Lake Community College Bruins 55-43 on Saturday.
Sophomore #
Courtnie Duncan# was a key player coming off the bench and putting up 12 points for the Badgers, nine of which came from behind the 3-point arc. “It was a tough loss for our whole team,” said Duncan. “We were able to stay close in the first half and although we fought hard the whole game, in the end turnovers and poor shooting killed us.” The Badgers were down only three points at the half, 27-24, but the Bruins outscored Snow 28-19 in the second half.
Freshmen guard #
Amber Daly# scored ten points and grabbed six rebounds. “I am feeling torn by the loss,” said Daly. “We did well at moving to get open when someone would drive toward the basket, but we could work on rebounding and crashing the boards to get those second chances.”
“Defensively we did a nice job containing Natalie Parsons and Katie Richens, but Rachel Morris played extremely well for them scoring in a variety of ways,” said head coach Natalie Visger. Morris, a sophomore center, had game-highs with 16 points and seven rebounds for the Bruins, but the Badgers held Parsons and Richens to only five points apiece.
“Offensively the ball wasn't falling for us and every time we made a run in the second half Salt Lake had an answer,” said Visger. “I am confident that we will eventually hit our stride and find that 'magic' we had before the holiday break.”
Before the Badgers left for their Christmas break they beat the then No. 20 ranked Bruins on their home court in overtime. Saturday, however, the tables turned as SLCC came back to beat the Ladies on their home court.
The Badgers will be back in action again as they play second ranked North Idaho College (21-1, 5-1) on Jan. 24 in Coeur d'Alene, Ida., and the College of Southern Idaho (11-10, 5-2) in Twin Falls two days later.
