Although the Snow College Women's Basketball team (3-10) hasn't had a perfect season in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, it was a memorable one.
This past week the Ladies hosted and lost to North Idaho College (44-60) and then in overtime to College of Southern Idaho (66-69).
In Thursday's game against the NIC Cardinals sophomore forward
Jordi Willden scored ten points and crashed three boards for the Badgers. Freshmen guard
Amber Daly scored nine points and grabbed two rebounds.
“North Idaho beat us with big shots from their posts as well as the run they put together to start the second half,” said Head Coach Natalie Visger. “I'm proud of how my team played defensively and we are getting close to playing very well.”
Saturday's game versus the Eagles was sophomore night and Snow College recognized their four sophomores-- guard
Becca Rees, guard
Courtnie Duncan, forward
Jordi Willden, and forward
Vika Havili.
“Sophomore night was a lot of fun for me,” said Daly. “I love our sophomores and it was pretty sad to know that I won't be able to play with them again next year. It will be different without them for sure. The experience of this season has taught me a lot and most of it came from watching and learning from the sophomores.”
Visger has also enjoyed this season. “All four sophomores have been a pleasure to coach and I am excited to see them finish the season strong,” she said. “They have made Snow College proud over the last two seasons!”
Rees scored a team high 20 points, 12 of which game from behind the 3-point line. “It was a fun night and we had a lot of energy knowing it was sophomore night,” says Rees. “I thought that it was one of the best games we have played all year and everyone did so well. It was an exciting game and once again we are continuing to get better.”
Daly scored ten points for the Badgers—six from behind the arc, and grabbed three rebounds. “We did lose, but it was a well fought game,” said Daly. “I was extremely proud of my team for fighting back and making them earn that win because we did take them into overtime. We did have one slip up that didn't cost us the game, but made it harder on ourselves.”
Willden pulled down 10 boards for the Ladies and put up six points.
“Against College of Southern Idaho we again played very well defensively and we were sparked in the first half by
Becca Rees' hot shooting,” said Visger. “I thought we had a few too many unforced turnovers that hurt us.
Hailey Larsen went coast to coast to even the score and send us to overtime. Unfortunately we did not have enough left to win it. Overall we are playing so much better than a month ago and I'm enjoying coaching this team right now. Our focus is peaking over the next two weeks!”
The Lady Badgers will finish their regular season this week. They will first travel to Price where they will play USU-Eastern and then to Rangely, Colo., to play Colorado Northwestern Community College. The following week the Badgers will travel to Coeur d'Alene, Ida., for the SWAC post season tournament.
