Snow women beat USU-Eastern Saturday afternoon

EPHRAIM — The Snow College Lady Badgers exhibited true team play as they extended their season opening win streak to 11 games Saturday afternoon with an 80-70 win over the USU-Eastern Golden Eagles in Price. Nine different Badgers had double digit minutes, four scored in double digits, 10 Badgers pulled down rebounds and seven different players registered assists as the Badgers made it tough for the Golden Eagles to know where to focus their attention.

Snow led by five at the break, 40-35, then came out of the locker room on fire, going on a 14-2 run in first three minutes to open the second half. With just over two minutes left in the game, the Badgers led by 20 points, 80-60, before USU-Eastern scored the last 10 points of the night.

Kaitlyn Hurley led four Badger starters in double figures scoring 20 points. Whitney Saunders scored 14 for Snow, Jilian Powell added 12 and Ashton Henderson chipped in 10. The Badgers' fifth starter, Matysen Evensen was busy under the backboards, pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds to go with her eight points. Ana Borges came off the bench to lead USU-Eastern with 14 points and Shelby Cornforth had a team-high nine rebounds. As a team the Badgers shot 44 percent from the floor while holding the Golden Eagles to 31 percent.

Snow next plays Thursday night when they travel to Salt Lake Community College to face the 11th ranked Bruins in a matchup of teams who have started league play at 2-0. The 16th ranked Badgers will then take a week off for Christmas, resuming play two days after Christmas in a tournament in Longview, Wash. The Badgers return to league play on Thursday, Jan. 8 when they host College of Southern Idaho, 8-4 and currently ranked No. 20 in the nation.
