Box Score EPHRAIM – The Snow College Lady Badgers had a rough go of it in Taylorsville Saturday night as they lost 70-54 to the sixth-ranked Bruins of Salt Lake Community College. A win could have put the Badgers in the driver's seat for a shot to finish in second place as the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) heads into the last week of the regular season, but it was not to be as Salt Lake (SLCC) was better at the fundamentals in extending its record to 12-1 in league play and clinch the SWAC regular season title.
Â
The Badgers shot well in the game hitting 23 of their 40 field goal attempts for 58 percent, but their 40 attempts were the second lowest number of shots they have attempted in a game this season. Meanwhile, SLCC hit only 45 percent from the field, but that was on 28 of 62 shooting as the Bruins got off 22 more shots than did Snow.
Â
A reason for Snow's low number of attempts from the floor was 26 turnovers – to only eight for SLCC – the most turnovers the Badgers have had in a game since league play started two months ago. And while each team pulled down 27 rebounds, the Badgers grabbed only three offensive boards, leading to three second chance points, to 13 offensive rebounds and 14 second chance points for the Bruins.
Â
Jilian Powell was the only Badger to score in double figures, finishing with 12 points, while Raushan Gultekin and Clarissa Sabedra each scored 17 to lead four Bruins in double digit scoring. Guard Savannah Park led the Badgers with seven rebounds and forward
Whitney Saunders pulled down six. Cassidy Whitney had a game-high eight rebounds for SLCC.
Â
Snow is now 20-6 overall and 8-5 in league play, tied for second place in the SWAC with the College of Southern Idaho. This week Southern Idaho will play at Salt Lake on Thursday as Snow entertains fifth place North Idaho (4-8 in league, 16-11 overall). Then on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. the Badgers will host Southern Idaho (8-5 in league, 17-11 overall) in a game that will decide second place in the SWAC. In the conference tournament which will be played in Price next week, the second place team and first place SLCC will get byes in the first round.
