Box Score PRICE, Utah (February 8, 2018) -- The Snow College women's basketball team picked up an important road victory on Thursday, holding off Utah State Eastern, 65-61, in Scenic West Athletic Conference action. With the victory, the Lady Badgers pull to within one game of league leading Salt Lake CC.
Snow College jumped out to an early 10-0 lead to start the game, and pushed the lead to 20-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Badgers outscored USUE in the second quarter, 16-15, to take a 36-24 lead at the half. After three quarters, Snow led 53-40 before the Lady Eagles made a run in the final quarter, outscoring the Lady Badgers, 21-12. While Snow never trailed in the game, USUE made things interesting in the final period when Brooklynn Barrus hit a three-pointer with 3:06 remaining to cut the Lady Badgers' lead to 61-55. The Lady Eagles pulled to within two points at the 1:24 mark when Rashel Blazzard connected on a jumper. Snow's
Madison Mooring extended the Snow lead back to four points with a pair of free throws with just :20 seconds remaining. After USUE's Kaitlin Toluono hit a pair of free throws of her own with :10 second remaining to cut the lead back to two points, Mooring earned another trip to the free throw line and drained both attempts to give Snow the 65-61 advantage with just :07 seconds remaining. With :02 seconds remaining, the Lady Eagles designed a play to give Madison Loftus a three-point attempt; however, Snow's
Harley Hansen played the shot to perfection and was credited with the blocked shot as time expired.
Kayla Hugie led the Lady Badgers with 20 points in the win, connecting on 3-of-5 attempts from three-point range. Hansen was credited with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals, while
Jazmin Chavez had 11 points of her own with nine rebounds. Snow dominated the inside game, outscoring USUE 20-6 in the paint.
The Lady Badgers will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Salt Lake Community College. Game time is set for 3 p.m. in Salt Lake.
