The Snow College women's wrestling team split a pair of duals against Umpqua Community College and Menlo College at the Women's West Coast Tournament of Champions over the weekend. The Badgers then had three placers at the open-style event the following day.
Snow College entered the weekend following a convincing 53-3 victory against Utah Tech University. The win against the Trailblazers was the first dual victory for the Badgers since the program started last season.
Six Badgers earned victories against the Riverhawks in their 28-23 victory.
Rachel Jones made quick work of her opponent in the 109-pound division. She pinned Nia Perez in just under 90 seconds to earn five points for the Badgers.
Ana Valentina Martinez Jimenez (123 pounds)
Angella Van Valkenburg (155 pounds) and
Audrey Gribble (191 pounds) each earned victories via technical fall in their respective weight classes earning four points each. Two other Badgers earned victories via forfeit as the Badgers claimed the 28-23 victory.
Three Badgers placed within the top four at the open-style event the following day.
Jennifer Thomas made her way through the 101-pound division and defeated teammate
Leilani Milla along the way to finish in fourth place.
Jones made more waves in the 109-pound division as she won each of her first three matches, two via fall and one via technical fall, to enter the championship bout. She was defeated by Micaela Correa to claim second place.
Corrie Williams was the third Badger to place at the event. She finished in second place in the 143-pound division. Williams earned a pair of convincing wins via technical fall while not surrendering a single point in either bout. The two technical fall wins sandwiched a win via fall in just over 90 seconds against Alana Ontiveros of Menlo College. Williams then suffered a loss via technical fall to finish second in the event.
Snow College will now have a short break for the holidays before a rematch against UCC and a matchup with Southwestern Oregon Community College Jan. 5 in Roseburg, Oregon. For additional information, visit snowbadgers.com.
