Women's Basketball Hosts No. 23 SLCC in Mid-Week Showdown

GAME NOTES
  • The Snow College women's basketball team finalizes its four-game home stand against No. 23 Salt Lake Community College Thursday in Ephraim.  This will mark the first meeting between the two teams this season.
  • The Badgers are coming off an 86-53 defeat against Utah State University Eastern last Saturday.  With the loss, the Badgers dropped to 12-9 overall and 2-3 within the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
  • Madison Hosino led the Badgers in scoring with 18 points against the Eagles.  This is the 11th time all season Hosino has scored in double figures for the Badgers.
  • As a team, the Badgers shot 47 percent on 8-17 shooting from beyond the arc against the Eagles.  This is the third-highest shooting percentage the Badgers have shot in a game this season.
  • The Badgers are shooting 34 percent from beyond the arc this season as a team.  The stout shooting is good enough to crack the top 25 among NJCAA Division I teams slotting them at 21st overall.
  • The Bruins are 17-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 within the SWAC.  They are currently riding a 13-game winning streak.  Their last loss came against Odessa College Saturday, Nov. 25 in Taylorsville.
  • The Badgers are 15-29 overall against the Bruins historically.  Snow College has won back-to-back games against SLCC after defeating them in two of their three meetings last season.

LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College women's basketball team suffered an 86-53 loss against No. 16 Utah State University Eastern Saturday in Ephraim.  With the loss, the Badgers drop to 12-9 overall and 2-3 within Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

Snow College entered the weekend matchup following a 121-38 victory against Community Christian College the weekend prior.  The 83-point victory marked the highest point total for the Badgers in program history.

The Badgers got off to a slow start and quickly found themselves down 11-0 through the first four minutes of action.  The Eagles maintained the double-digit lead through much of the first quarter.

The momentum stayed with USUE to begin the second quarter.  The Eagles used a 15-0 run to take a 35-9 lead midway through the period.  They would take a 45-19 lead into the halftime break.

The Badgers would cut into the deficit slightly, but the Eagles still maintained a 23-point lead heading into the final period.  The deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the Badgers were outscored by 10 in the fourth quarter and suffered the 86-53 defeat.

Madison Hosino led all scorers with 18 points while grabbing five rebounds.  Enid Vaifanua and Ainsley Thurber each finished with eight points in the loss.

UP NEXT: Snow College will head out onto the road for a single-game rematch against USUE Saturday, Feb. 3 in Price.  The Eagles are 18-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play following the victory over the Badgers last weekend.  Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. inside the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center.  For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
