GAME NOTES:The Snow College women's basketball team will wrap up its road schedule starting with Colorado Northwestern Community College Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in Rangely, Colorado. The Badgers will then travel to Salt Lake Community College Saturday at 1:00 p.m. inside the Lifetime Activities Center in Taylorsville, Utah.
Snow College is coming off a 45-32 victory over Utah State University Eastern last Thursday. The victory extended the Badgers win streak to four games and propelled them into fourth place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings.
The Badgers played lock down defense that saw the Eagles shoot just 16.7 percent from the field along with shooting 2-27 from beyond the arc – a 7.4 percent clip. Snow College also limited USUE to only two points during the second quarter.
Sydnee Smith (Fr./Grace, Idaho/Grace HS) led all scorers with 11 points against USUE, her sixth double-digit game of the season. Smith also set a career high with four steals against the Eagles.
The Badgers are 41-2 historically against the Spartans after defeating them 68-57 in the most recent matchup. Snow College averages 71 points when playing against CNCC.
The Spartans are 3-24 overall with an 0-12 conference record. CNCC is on an 18-game losing streak after dropping 71-50 to North Idaho College and 98-43 against the College of Southern Idaho last week.
Snow College is 15-32 historically and are currently on a three-game losing streak to the Bruins. The Badgers have taken four of the last 10 matchups against SLCC, but have not won since Feb. 9, 2023.
The Bruins are 7-4 in conference play with a 18-7 overall season record. SLCC is coming off a pair of losses to CSI (67-58) and NIC (71-61). These two losses dropped the Bruins into third place in the SWAC standings.
The Badgers are fighting to stay in the fourth spot of the conference standings and keep their playoff hopes alive. Snow College is currently half a game ahead of the fifth place Eagles following the 45-32 victory last Thursday.
LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College women's basketball team downed Utah State University Eastern last Thursday 45-32. The victory pushed the Badgers' to 16-9 overall with a 5-5 record in conference play.
The Badgers were coming off a 68-57 victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College. These wins are a part of a four-game win streak that has catapulted Snow College into fourth place within the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings.
The first quarter started out slow as the game was knotted at six with four minutes left to play in the period. The Badgers then strung together a 9-0 run throughout the next three minutes to go 15-6 and ultimately led 15-9 at the end of the quarter.
The second period then stalled offensively for both teams after the Badgers outscored the Eagles 8-2 in the quarter. Despite the low scoring quarter, the Badgers grabbed 14 of the 18 Eagle misses to limit them to just two points in the entire quarter.
Snow College led 23-11 entering halftime. 11 points is the second lowest number of points the Badgers have allowed in the first half throughout this season.
The Badgers maintained a double-digit lead for the entire third quarter after forcing the Eagles to go 3-11 from the field. Both teams netted 11 points in the third, and the Badgers entered the fourth with a 34-22 lead.
Madison Hosino (So./Layton, Utah/Northridge HS) started the fourth quarter with a 6-0 burst to help the Badgers go up 40-22. This 18-point lead would be the largest of the game for Snow College.
The Eagles then had a 4-1 burst of their own before three scoreless minutes for both teams. Snow College then took six of the last 10 points of the game to win 45-32.
Sydnee Smith (Fr./Grace, Idaho/Grace HS) led all scorers with 11 points along with setting a career high of four steals in the match. Maliyah Elliott (So./Auburn, Washington/Auburn Mtn. View HS) tied a season high of seven rebounds. Snow College dominated the rebounds once again, out rebounding USUE 46-32.
UP NEXT: The Badgers will return home Thursday Feb. 27 to host CSI. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Following Thursday's matchup, the Badgers will then host NIC Saturday Feb. 29 at 1:00 p.m. Both games will be played inside the Horne Activity Center in Ephraim.
