Badgers Earn Two Victories at NJCAA Coaches Duals

The Snow College men's wrestling team defeated a pair of opponents at the NJCAA Coaches Duals in Miami, Oklahoma over the weekend.  The Badgers were defeated in the semifinal round of the consolation bracket after defeating Otero Junior College and Cowley County Community College.
 
The Badgers began the weekend in Pool C alongside Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Northeastern Junior College, Ellsworth Community College, and Labette Community College.
 
Jacob Waddoups and Zack Johnson both won their matches by fall against NEOAM.  David Herring also won his match via decision 12-6.  Snow College would end up losing 34-15.
 
Four Badgers won matches in the team's second dual against NJC.  Xavier Perez earned an 11-9 victory via decision in the 157-pound weight class.  Jace Brower earned a convincing victory in the 165-pound division winning by technical fall, 16-0. 
 
Christian Slack won his bout via fall in just over 90 seconds while Nick Ware won via major decision, 11-2, in the 285-pound division.  Despite the victories, Snow College was defeated 30-17.
 
The Badgers squared off with LCCC in the final match of pool play.  Snow College narrowly lost a tight matchup 28-24.  Waddoups, Johnson, Slack, and Herring each won matches via fall, but the Badgers came up just short.
 
Snow College would turn around the following day and win two matches in the consolation bracket against OJC and Cowley.  The Badgers won seven out of their 10 bouts against OJC en route to a 40-12 victory.  
 
Rhett Miner won via technical fall in the 149-pound division.  Johnson won via fall in 4:17 while Slack earned a technical fall victory.  Waddoups, Kasey Curtis, Perez, and Brower all won their bouts.
 
The Badgers earned a 30-14 victory over Cowley in the quarterfinal matchup.  They earned five victories including wins from Miner, who won via fall in 48 seconds, and Herring, who won via fall in just under two minutes.  Brower and Johnson both earned victories via fall in two minutes and 2:12, respectively.  Perez was also victorious.
 
Snow College wrapped up the duals against Cloud County where they dropped a close 27-24 match.  Three Badgers won their bouts via fall including Miner (1:45), Johnson (1:17), and Herring (0:48). Waddoups (13-8) and Brower (11-6) both won via decision.
 
Snow College will continue its season in Rock Springs, Wyoming as it takes on Western Wyoming Community College Jan. 25.  The Badgers will then wrap up their regular season against Air Force University and Utah Valley University at a dual meet in Orem Jan. 27.
