The Snow College men's wrestling team finished in 22
nd place at the 2022-23 NJCAA National Championships over the weekend in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Hayes Dalton finished in sixth place in the 184-pound division and was named an All-American.
Dalton won each of his first three bouts, two of which by fall, and the third via decision, 14-12. He was then defeated by Jameel Coles of Northwest Kansas Tech via fall in the semi-final matchup which dropped him to the consolation bracket. Dalton fell in his next two bouts to secure a sixth-place finish at the tournament.
Jacob Waddoups won a pair of matches to help the Badgers. He took down Jeffery Molina of Bergen Community College via fall in 90 seconds before losing in the next round via technical fall. Waddoups won his first bout in the consolation bracket against Gabe Livingston of Southwestern Michigan before suffering a defeat in the following round.
It was a similar path for Zach Johnson as he earned a victory in his first matchup in the 174-pound division. He pinned Simon Lingle of Niagara County Community College in 3:46 to move on. After losing his next bout and dropping to the consolation bracket, he defeated Lucas Henderson of Indian Hills Community College via fall in just under two and a half minutes.
David Herring also earned a victory in the 285-pound division. After suffering a close loss in the first round, he was able to pin Jacob Rahn of Iowa Lakes Community College in under five minutes. He was then narrowly defeated in the following round 2-0.
Jaxon Johnson won his opening round bout in the 141-pound division against Kyler Rodriguez of Middlesex College before dropping his next two matches.
As a team, the Badgers accumulated 30.5 points and finished in 22
nd place overall out of the 56 entrants in the National Tournament.
The Badgers earned five victories in their first season as a revived program at Snow College and will look to build on a successful 2022-23 season next fall.
