GAME NOTES:
- The Snow College women's basketball team will wrap up its non-conference slate against Navajo Technical University. The match is scheduled for Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
- The Badgers are fresh off hosting the Snow College Holiday Invitational, where they defeated Otero Junior College 93-74 and Harford Community College 91-48. They are currently 11-3 and are on a five-game winning streak.
- Three Badgers are in the top 15 scorers in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, with Lala Baldwin leading the way, averaging 10.4 points per game in eighth place. Seini Tuipulotu and Hillary Akomatsri are tied for 12th with 9.2 ppg.
- The Badgers have outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points and are 7-0 on the year when they outshoot their opponents. They are 62-18 all-time under Head Coach Zu Grinsell in this regard.
- Snow College is 7-0 when it commits fewer turnovers than its opponents. Grinsells' teams are 57-14 when they achieve this.
- The Badgers are 10-0 this season when they enter halftime with the lead and are 73-12 under Grinsell.
- Two different Badgers have recorded double-doubles this season. Dalana Jakovljevic recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds against Central Wyoming College Nov. 14.
- Baldwin recorded a double-double last Saturday against Harford, where she gathered 10 rebounds and 12 assists and was two points shy of a triple-double with eight points.
LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College women's basketball team secured two victories at home during the Snow College Holiday Invitational last weekend as it took down Otero Junior College 93-74 and Harford Community College 91-48.
The Badgers are coming off the Salt Lake Classic, where they defeated Arizona Western College 65-59 and Central Wyoming College 53-40. The Badgers have extended their win streak to five games with one left to go in non-conference play.
The Badgers opened the game against Otero strong as they scored the first eight points of the match, and they would continue that march to a 13-4 lead by the midway point of the quarter. They would go on a 10-4 run to close out the first quarter to take a 23-8 lead.
The second period had the Badgers' run continue as they scored the first seven points to extend their lead to 22. Otero would strike back with its own 15-4 run to cut the lead in half, but Snow College was able to stabilize and maintain the lead to enter the half up 42-29.
The Badgers used the second half to put the game out of reach for the Rattlers as they took a lead as large as 25 points in the third quarter and outscored Otero 34-24 in the period for a 76-53 lead.
The final period saw familiar patterns as Snow College was able to keep Otero at an arm's length, not letting the lead dip below 20 until the final few minutes of the game. The Badgers were able to close out the game 93-74.
Four different Badgers scored double digits, with
Hillary Akomatsri leading the way with 22 points,
Lala Baldwin added 19, Seni Tuipulotu netted 13, and
Avery Allred recorded 10. The Badgers as a team recorded 30 assists throughout the game.
After defeating Otero, Snow College turned its attention to Harford the following day.
The Badgers established control early as they took a 12-3 lead by the halfway marker of the first quarter. Both teams scored seven points in the latter part of the period to bring the score to 19-10 in favor of the Badgers.
The Badgers opened the second period on an 11-5 run to extend their lead to 15 with 5:22 left in the first half. Akomatsri scored 11 points in the second quarter alone to help the Badgers to a 44-24 lead entering the break.
Snow College came out swinging in the second half as it outscored the Fighting Owls 26-11 and as they expanded their lead up to 35 by the end of the third quarter to enter the fourth period up 70-35.
The fourth and final period saw the Badgers slam the door shut as they outscored Harford 21-13 to take the game 91-48 and sweep the Snow College Holiday Invitational.
The Badgers had four different double-point scorers for back-to-back games, with Tuipulotu recording 15.
Sara Aoki recorded 10 or more points for the fifth time in the last seven games with 13,
June Olsen tied her career high with 12, and Akomatsri scored 11.
Baldwin achieved the first double-double of her career with 10 rebounds and 12 assists and was two points shy of making it a triple-double with eight points.
UP NEXT: The Badgers will open conference play at home against Colorado Northwestern Community College Jan. 3 at 1:00 p.m. They are 42-2 all-time against the Spartans with a 19-0 home record.
