LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College women's basketball team split its games this past weekend as it defeated North Idaho College 82-59 to snap its five-game slide before falling to No. 9 College of Southern Idaho 88-63.
The Badgers were coming off a standalone game against in-state rival Utah State University Eastern in Price, where they suffered a heartbreaking loss at the end of overtime, 60-59.
The Badgers started the game against the Cardinals on a hot streak as
Lala Baldwin scored the first points from beyond the arc to spark a 9-0 opening run, capped by a pair of free throws by
Hillary Akomatsri. NIC responded with its own 10-0 run to strike back. It would carry that momentum for the rest of the first quarter, as the Cardinals outscored the Badgers 22-16 to head into the second period.
The second quarter saw the Badgers chipping away at NIC's lead. They eventually took the lead back with 2:13 left in the half off a
Dalana Jakovljevic layup. They would score seven of the final eight points to enter the break up 40-33.
The second half kicked off with Snow College extending its lead as Jakovljevic and
Avery Allred strung together a layup and a jumper. The Badgers would outscore the Cardinals 14-8 to enter the final stanza up 54-41.
The final period of play had the Badgers open on a 9-4 run in the first three minutes with Baldwin's fingerprint all over it as she got a jumper and 3-pointer to fall while also creating a steal for a
Hartlynn Richins jumper. Akomatsri would also string together her own six-point run in the middle of the quarter. The Badgers would cruise on to an 82-59 victory.
Baldwin would finish with a career high of 29 points to lead all Badgers in scoring while tacking on three steals and three assists. Akomatsri would chip in 16 points, six assists, and four rebounds.
After defeating the Cardinals, Snow College welcomed No. 9 CSI into the Horne Activity Center.
The first quarter opened with the Golden Eagles taking a dominant lead as they went up 15-5 halfway through the period. CSI would continue to outscore the Badgers in the first quarter to head into the second period up 26-12.
The second period had the Badgers keep pace with CSI over the first six minutes as the Golden Eagles held a slight scoring edge, 9-8, of which was finished by a pair of Jakovljevic layups. CSI would stretch its lead to 16 to head into the half with a score of 43-27.
The third quarter followed much of the same script as CSI kept a comfortable distance from the Badgers. In the third period, Richins would knock down a 3-pointer, and
Sara Aoki also scored five of her nine points as they headed into the final quarter down, 72-48.
The fourth period saw CSI maintain its lead for the remaining stretch as it outscored the Badgers 16-15 to close out the game in convincing fashion, 88-63.
Allred led all Badgers with 12 points, as both
Sydnee Smith and Baldwin each added 11 points. Richins recorded a career high nine points with three rebounds and four assists.
